The Computer Engineering curriculum provides students with a rigorous, interdisciplinary education in both hardware and software systems. Students complete foundational courses in mathematics, science, and engineering during their first year, followed by a structured plan of study in digital logic, computer architecture, programming, embedded systems, and electives across both the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and the Department of Electrical Engineering.
Curriculum requirements differ slightly depending on the year a student entered the program.
For Students Entering Fall 2025 and Beyond
This curriculum focuses on the intersection of hardware and software, blending electrical engineering fundamentals with computer science depth. Students study digital logic, circuits, computer architecture, embedded systems, programming, operating systems, algorithms, and more. Modern design tools are introduced early and used throughout the program to design, prototype, and analyze real computing systems.
For Students Entering Fall 2024 and Earlier
This version of the program builds a foundation in digital computing systems and their components, with courses spanning electrical and software systems. While the core structure is similar, it reflects earlier course sequencing and prerequisites.
Technical Electives
Students in the Computer Engineering program complete multiple technical electives, most commonly from Computer Science and Engineering. Some approved courses in Electrical Engineering or other disciplines may also satisfy requirements.
